Kuldeep Calls Upon Lt. Governor to Shift JNRM Boys Hostel to Vacant Building at Prothrapur

Port Blair, Oct. 14: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands for his intervention with regard to the unhealthy situation prevailing at Girls Hostel of JNRM College. The hostel has a capacity of 230 beds, whereas 691 girls of Inter Islands are staying in it.

Since the schools and colleges are supposed to open shortly and in view of guidelines of COVID-19 pandemic, it would not be advisable to adjust all the 691 girls in the hostel beyond its capacity, said Kuldeep.

However, the MP said that a govt. building having a capacity of 400 beds at the premises of Prothrapur Jail complex is lying vacant since 2016. The building was constructed by incurring around Rs.15 (fifteen) Crore. The MP has thus requested the Lt. Governor to shift the JNRM Boys hostel at the aforesaid vacant building at Jail premises, Prothrapur so that the girls who are facing accommodation problems in the existing JNRM girls hostel can be adjusted in the JNRM Boys hostel.
