Port Blair, Oct. 23: In its bid to stop illegal activities in South Andaman District, a surprise filed visit was carried out by the Deputy Commissioner (SA), Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS alongwith SDM (SA). During the inspection, it was found that one person was illegally mining stones at Bimblitan village using excavator.

The DC (SA) immediately directed to take strict action against the violator and the excavator was seized on the spot. The keys of the same were handed over to Control Room and also a fine of Rs. 2,40,000/- has been imposed against the said violator.

As part of initiating strict actions against the violators, who were involved in various cases of illegal earth cutting in South Andaman District, during the lockdown period, fine amounting to the tune of Rs. 25,20,000/- has been imposed against various violators. The District Administration is taking all possible steps to curb the menace of such illegal activities and strict actions will be initiated against such violators.

The District Administration has also sealed a stone crushing unit at Brookshabad area for indulging in illegal mining activities and has initiated strict actions against the violator.

The DC (SA) has appealed to the general public to refrain from such illegal activities and also keep an eye on such illegal activities happening around them and inform about the same to the District Control Room on 1070.
