Port Blair, Oct. 27: To strengthen the management efforts to contain COVID-19, Shri Vijay Singh, IPS, DIGP, A&N Islands along with Shri Ashok Kumar Vishnoi, SDPO Car Nicobar visited Katchal Island. The DIGP took stock of the COVID-19 situation in Katchal Island and interacted with Corona Front Line Warriors, Village Captains, Departmental Heads, Settlers & Shop Keeper association.

During the discussion, the DIGP stressed on the needof “Jan Aandolan” Campaign launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for containing Corona Virus and the mandatory precautions/guidelines to be followed. He briefed the gathering to be proactive and to ensure the appropriate behavior of three golden principles i.e. wearing of face mask/cover in public places, to maintain social distancing (do gaz ki doori) and practice of hand hygiene. Further, in view of the oncoming festival season, he also advised to take extra precautionary measures to contain COVID-19.

Later on, the Village Captains and other representatives put forth their suggestions and local issues to the DIGP.They demanded for increasing the services of plying of ships, heli and cargo vessels for Katchal islands for regular supply of essential commodities as well as for transit of stranded passengers from Port Blair.

The general public applauded the efforts of Police as well as Administration for containing the spread of COVID-19 at Katchal island.

In the concluding session, Shri.Ashok KumarVishnoi, SDPO Car Nicobar emphasized on the need for strict enforcement of COVID-19 in the islands and proposed the vote of thanks.
