Port Blair, Dec. 20: The training for Medical Officers for COVID19 Vaccination (COWIN) was conducted in A&N Islands on 18.12.2020. This is the first ever online training imparted to all the Medical Officers across the islands. The training was jointly organized by DHS/NHM, A&N Admn with WHO and UNDP. About 30 Medical Officers participated online at various places in these islands for one day training.

The training included the details of Human Resources, Logistics and vaccine cold chain management with regards to COVID19 vaccine. The Medical Officers were introduced about the latest technology for vaccine management named electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN).

The eVIN will be launched by January first week and thereafter the entire vaccine monitoring system management will go online. With this the training of the Medical Officer for COWIN the island has geared up for the introduction of the COWIN whenever it is introduced in near future.

The training was imparted by Dr J.K Mehta, Sub Regional Team Leader (East), WHO; Dr Samarendra Biswas, SMO, WHO, Dr Avijit Roy, Sate Nodal Officer (COVID19), A&N Administration and Dr. Rohit Kumar, State Project Officer, UNDP.

This training will follow the cascade training of ANMs for COVID19 vaccine and eVIN.”
