Port Blair, Dec. 21: In compliance of the directions of Hon’ble National Green Tribunal maintenance of ambient noise standards is a mandatory requirement under the law. The A & N Pollution Control Committee has come out with the notification in July 2019 in which the ambient air quality standard in respect of noise in different zones have been notified and also made available to the general public through print and electronic media.
Keeping in view of this, a meeting of Task Force was convened by the Dy. Commissioner (SA) regarding usage of loud speakers at religious places. During the meeting Superintendent of Police (SA), Sub-Divisional Magistrate(SA), Tehsildar, SHOs and other officials were also present.
DC(SA) has directed all the representative of religious institutions to use the loud speakers as per the permissible limit. Further, the District Administration will conduct intense awareness measures for the religious institutions for proper usage of loud speakers.
It was brought to all concerned that violation of the direction of Hon’ble NGT regarding usage of loud speakers will be viewed seriously and action will be taken as per the relevant rules including imposition of fines and even seizing of sound system.
The general public is hereby requested to pass on any such violation to the District Control Room No.1077/238881/240127 for immediate action.
