Port Blair, Dec. 23: Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- DAY- (NULM) scheme aims at reduction of poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them access to self-employment resulting in improvement in their livelihood on sustainable basis.

Port Blair Municipal Council moved ahead in implementation of the scheme of Self Employment Program (SEP) component of  under DAY-NULM in achieving yet another loan amounting to Rs. 1.85 lakhs which was sanctioned and disbursed to  Smt. R. Nallammah,R/o Shadipur ,Ward No 11. She runs a petty items provisional  shop. The Secretary, PBMC, Smti. Anjali Sehrawat IAS and Branch Manager & Manager (Loan) , Canara Bank, Port Blair Branch handed over the sanction letter to her at a brief function held at the conference hall of PBMC today. Smt. Nallammah was happy at the receipt of loan and hopes to utilize the amount in expanding her micro-enterprise particularly after COVID-19 related set back to businesses.

Financial assistance of upto 2 lakhs is provided to Individuals/groups and upto 10 Lakhs for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) including street vendors for setting up gainful self-employment ventures / micro enterprises, suited to their skills, training, aptitude and local conditions. The interest subvention under the scheme is approx. 5%. Further, women and SHGs are entitled for additional interest subvention of 3%.
