Port Blair, Dec. 31: In order to curb drug abuse and the issues arising out of this menace in these islands, a chain of evidence was prepared in a professional manners and a team comprising SI Bisawjeet Prasad, Head Constable Upender Singh, Constable Hari Krishna Yadav and Samresh Mistry was deputed to mainland to arrest the drug peddlers from Kolkata, West Bengal who were assisting the drug peddlers of these Islands in supply of drugs.

On continuous follow up and technical analysis of the available evidence, the above mentioned team arrested one accused Chottu Sarkar on 23/12/2020 from Kolkata, West Bengal who used to supply ganja in these Island. He was brought to Port Blair on transit remand and produced before the Hon’ble Court at Port Blair and remanded to judicial custody.

Earlier, also on 09/12/2020 another accused namely Santanu Jana supplier of ganja to these Islands was also arrested from Kolkata, West Bengal and is in judicial custody at Port Blair. This is the first time when such drug peddlers are being arrested from mainland and brought to Port Blair. The arrest of these 02 drug peddlers could be possible only due to the well co-ordinated supervision of DySP CID and overall supervision of SP(CID) & SP(S/A).

The Andaman & Nicobar Police has a strict zero tolerance policy and is taking all possible steps in making these islands free from anti-social activities and is keeping strict vigil to stop gambling, smuggling and proliferation of narcotics substances in these Islands. General Public is once again requested to pass on credible information on narcotics substances, illegal sale of liquor, gambling or any illegal activity on the telephone numbers: 233307, 232586, 100, & 9474233832. The identity of the informer will be kept secret.
