Port Blair, Jan 8: The District Child Protection Unit (SA) under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner South Andaman conducted an awareness programme at Bethany Children Home, Bathu Basti on 08.01.2021. Children were sensitized on the topic “POCSO Act and Cyber Crime”.

The programme started with a welcome speech by Smti. Meghna Pal Gobind, DCPO (SA). Children were sensitized about “Good Touch” and “Bad Touch” as children are one of the most vulnerable sections of the society and are more susceptible to physical and psychological abuse.

The resource person Smti. Shilpi Singha, Sub Inspector (PS Pahargoan), highlighted about POCSO Act and enlightened regarding the cyber -crime in order to prevent crime against women and children.

A Quiz competition was also conducted among the inmates of Child Care Institution and the winners were awarded with the prizes. A total of 38 children participated. The programme ended with distribution of gifts and refreshment to children.

The District Administration ensures to conduct such programmes in order to sensitize and educate children towards their protection. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Smti. Ankita Saha, Protection Officer (IC).
