Port Blair, April 11: The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman Shri Suneel Anchipaka along with Shri Aom Dhole, Assistant Commissioner (HQ) and Dr Ganesh Sammaddar made a visit to Swaraj Dweep to review the control measures in view of sudden surge in COVID-19 positive cases in South Andaman District.

The DC took a review meeting in the waiting hall of helipad at Swaraj Dweep which was attended by MO, Swaraj Dweep, Dy.SP, Swarajdweep and officials of revenue and other line department, Ex-PRIs, members of market association. DC(SA) directed to ensure strict enforcement measures to control the pandemic.

Subsequently he enquired about preparedness of local authorities regarding corona vaccination drive. The MO, PHC, Swaraj Dweep informed that out of target group of 2344 individual, 876 have been already vaccinated. The DC (SA) directed the MO, PHC, Swaraj Dweep to speed up the vaccination drive and achieve status of 100% vaccination in coordination with Revenue and Police Department.

Thereafter the DC(SA) alongwith the team visited PHC, Swarajdweep and took stock of the ongoing vaccination drive under the TIKA UTSAV. Later he paid visit to the houses of the some of the target individuals who were reluctant to take vaccines. He convinced the individuals that the vaccine is safe and the District Administration has come to their doorsteps to ensure that each and every individual get vaccine to fight this pandemic. One old female Smt Bhagwati Mondal who was hesitant to take vaccination, being motivated by the DC(SA) and subsequently she assured the DC to take the first dose of vaccine.

The DC also visited the market area near Swaraj Dweep jetty and interacted with the shop/boat owners and convinced them to take vaccination and further reiterated that five-fold strategy of Testing, Tracing, Treatment, COVID appropriate behaviour and vaccination should be meticulously implemented in South Andaman.
