5549 Doses Administered in Single Day     

Port Blair, April 12: The second day of ‘Tika Utsav’ has marked the soaring high in COVID19 vaccination coverage in the UT. More than 75 Teams conducted the vaccination campaign in every Island and administered 5549 doses in a single day. Additional mini teams were made to vaccinate people in far flung areas locally.   Elaborate planning and monitoring was done by the A&N Administration and the Health Department. Special monitors were appointed in the level of Secretary and Director to monitor the process. Continuous supply of vaccine was ensured by a team from Health Department.

A special campaign was conducted with the help of the Health Department, faculty and students of ANIIMS, Port Blair as Health team and the A&N Police who paid visit door to door appealing and guiding the general public to undertake vaccination. During the visits, the Health team also cleared many doubts and myths of the households with regards to vaccination.

A Flying Vaccination Team was constituted under the leadership of Dr. Sunil Kumar, Nodal Officer, NTCP, DHS and Smti. Birasmani, Sr. ANM of DHS who visited Little Andaman by Pawanhans Helicoter to vaccinate the natives. The team was flagged off by Shri Ram Niwas Sharma, MD NHM, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, DC South Andaman District,  Dr. Omkar Singh, DHS, Shri Hari Kalikat, SDM South Andaman, Shri Deepak Pundir, Director, CS&CA, Dr. Avijit Roy, Nodal Officer, COVID-19 and Shri Ramesh, Tehsildar, Port Blair at Port Blair helipad. A total of 195 persons were vaccinated in Little Andaman by the team.

Teams from Education Department and Anganwadi workers are also playing vital role in reaching out to people at grassroot level and motivating them for vaccination. A special boat with a medical team has been arranged to visit Chowra Island in Nicobar District on 13.04.2021, to vaccinate the native there in a single day. Necessary logistic and medications apart from vaccine already have been arranged for the same.

The A&N Administration will also send a team of medics along with paramedics on board MV Kalighat which is sailing down south to vaccinate all the beneficiaries on board and return back by the same ship to Port Blair on its return journey. Necessary arrangement have been made in this regard.

Further, the Health Department will also undertake vaccination at Workplace from 13.04.2021 onwards and on the first day, vaccination will be conducted at APWD, Head Office (Nirman Bhawan), Port Blair and VSI Airport, Port Blair which will follow vaccination of staffs in Van Sadan by a special medical team to be headed by Dr. Rohit, State Project Officer, UNDP.

The people who are above 45 years of age i.e. who are born before 01.01.1977 are eligible to take the vaccine in the nearest centers. The centres will function on all days between 9.30 am to 4 pm for registration and vaccination and extended time period post registration, if needed.

People have been requested to reach the centers in staggered manners and local Community Based Organizations may extend all the hands to the health officials to conduct the session as a part of jan bhagidari.

All are requested to follow COVID appropriate Behavior by maintaining safe social distance “Do gaj ki doori”, wash hand and mouth intermittently with soap and water ensuring 60 seconds of contact with soap and wearing appropriately masks in crowded places.

In addition to the vaccination all should adopt the COVID Appropriate Behavior “Dawai bhi aur kadhai bhi”.

Also, it is requested from all the Political Parties, Religious Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and tribal councils to encourage and mobilize the general public to take the vaccine at the earliest in the nearest vaccination centre.
