Port Blair, Oct. 17: World Student's Day is celebrated every year on October 15. The day is celebrated in honour of the birth anniversary of the former president of India, Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Kalam worked as a scientist and administrator at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Kalam also gave invaluable contributions towards developing India's civilian space and military missile programs before becoming the 11th president of India.

Often referred to as the missile man of India for his work and people's president for his term in office, Kalam was well known for his insightful lectures to students which motivated them to achieve academic excellence. Over the course of his life, he was widely celebrated as a scientist, educationist, public speaker and president.

In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Hindu Rashtra Shakti team celebrated birthday of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's. Shri Angshuman Roy, State General Secretary ( Youth) distributed biscuit, pen, book, notebook etc to poor family of Garacharma & Bathu basti. The coaching center namely Lakshman Tuition Center, Sunder Colony,  Haddo celebrated Birthday of Dr Abul Kalam with their students.
