Port Blair, Feb 10: Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director, Panchayat and Municipal Elections/District Magistrate, South Andaman along with Shri. Ankit Chauhan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District today met the Sector Police Officers and deliberated on various aspects of law and order situation for the ensuing Panchayat and Municipal Elections.

The DPME briefed that both the Sector Magistrates as well as Sector Police Officer plays a pivotal role during any election as they are the eyes and ears of the Election Machinery and urged that the Sector Officers should visit and get familiar with jurisdiction of sector and polling stations of their sector frequently, keep close watch on activities and movements of candidates and political parties. He emphasized that ground assessment and sensitivity of their respective sector should be top priority.

The DPME further briefed that Sector Magistrates and Sector Police Officers should display good team work, assess the ground reality, know the components of the field and should made advance planning to tackle any situation. Every Sector Officers should feel confident and have good ideas about Election Laws as well as the Model Code of Conduct instructions and have no scope of errors, prompt in response and have basic contingency plan handy to anticipate the issues in their constituency.

He further directed to ensure regular patrolling in their respective sectors and ensure the code of conduct is being observed scrupulously and take action on violation found, if any. They should also take effective and proactive measures about law and order situation in their respective areas and action taken to be reported to the supervisory officers over mobile, phone or wireless and keep them well informed regularly.
