Port Blair, Feb 27: On 27.02.2022, Sh. Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS, IGP (L&O) A&N Islands along with Sh. Vijay Singh, IPS, DIGP (Intl.), Sh. Ravi Kumar Singh, IPS, SP (CID), Smti. Sandhya Swamy, IPS, SP (Comm./Fire) and other senior officers held the briefing at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar auditorium for all the Police personnel deployed in Panchayat and Municipal election duties. SsP, SDPOs and SHOs of North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar district joined the briefing through virtual mode.
While reiterating the commitment to conduct free, fair and impartial elections, IGP (L&O) A&N Islands, exhorted the police personnel to discharge their duties in professional and apolitical manner. Their personal conduct shall be above board and they shall not be associated with any canvassing or in any political activities whatsoever in any manner. He emphasized that the impartial role of police is not only their duty but also their moral responsibility towards the society. Further, he directed the staff to be aware about the do’s and don’ts of Model Code Conduct, their roles and responsibilities while discharging election related duties. Adhering to punctuality and discipline was stressed upon for ensuring smooth conduct of election. Emphasizing that conducting of peaceful and orderly election is paramount duty of the Police force, stringent action shall be taken against bootleggers, anti-social elements/nuisance creator and rumour mongers.
In addition, IGP (L&O) A&N Islands directed the police to strictly follow and enforce the Covid-19 guidelines issued by Govt. of India and Andaman & Nicobar Administration and assist the persons with disabilities (PwD)/senior citizens during polling. Sh. Vijay Singh, DIG/Intl briefed the police staff about current scenario and advised them about being vigilant against any kind of inducement being offered to voters. Smt. Sandhya Swamy, SP/Fire and Communication apprised about the arrangements made for wireless communication to ensure interruption free communication during poll.
At the end, a vote of thanks was presented by Shri Ankit Chauhan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
