Anchipaka and Team Inspect Facilities at Distribution Centre and Poll Collection Venue

Port Blair, Feb 28: The Office of the Director, Panchayat and Municipal Elections is geared up for the forthcoming General Elections to the Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad and Port Blair Municipal Council.

Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS (Director, Panchayat and Municipal Elections) along with Shri. Ankit Chauhan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (South Andaman District) and other officials inspected the proposed distribution centre at Netaji Stadium and directed APWD authorities to construct proper shelters and shades for Polling Officials who shall assemble for collection of polling materials. He directed the Municipal Authorities for arrangements of drinking water facilities, proper sanitation facilities etc. on the day of distribution of polling materials.

The venue for collection of after poll materials at JNRM and Girls School was also inspected by the team of officials and directions were given for erection of proper shade at both the venues.

The counting of votes for the ensuing elections shall be held on 08.03.2022 and the respective counting centres at JNRM and Girls were also inspected during the day. The Director (Panchayat and Municipal Elections) visited Strong Room at both JNRM and Girls School, Returning Officers room for counting of votes for Panchayats of Port Blair Tehsil at Girls School, Counting Hall of the Port Blair Zilla Parishad at Girls School and the Counting Centre and Strong Room at JNRM meant for storing polled materials of Port Blair Municipal Council.

Later in the day, the Director held virtual meeting with all the Sector Officers, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (s), Assistant Commissioner (s), Tehsildar (s) of A & N Islands and deliberated that UTs are entering the last phase before poll and it is imperative to have lots of MCC violations during this last week, all Sector Magistrates need to be more vigilant and prompt in disposing the cases related to MCC. He directed to complete the physical verification of each polling station immediately and report thereof shortage of Assured Minimum Facilities, if any.

The DPME also directed that all ROs should ensure that collection of postal ballots are timely ensured and had a brief discussion with all Nodal Officers of the three Districts on the plan chalked out for distribution of polling materials/EVMs to polling parties.

The Micro Observers appointed by the Director, Panchayat and Municipal Elections were imparted training at DBRAIT auditorium from 1700 Hrs onwards on 28.02.2022.
