Port Blair, March 8: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman celebrated International Women’s Day – 2022 with the theme of "Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow" with great zeal & enthusiasm on 8th March 2022 at ICAR-KVK, South Andaman by inviting Farmwomen, Woman Entrepreneurs & Agri-preneurs. Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director CIARI, graced the occasion as chief guest and called upon the women to recognize one’s own inner strength and build the family thereby building stronger nation. He also inspected and appreciated the items displayed in different categories of competitions viz. Handicrafts, Farm Produces and Millet based recipe. A debate competition on ‘Gender Equality’ was also organized and prizes were distributed to the winners.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Pr. Scientist & Head, KVK highlighted the importance of presentation and marketing strategies of local products for women empowerment. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, Dr. B.K Nanda, Dr. Bommayasamy, Dr. Zachariah George and Dr. Nitu Sindhu delivered lecture in their respective subjects relevant to the occasion. Earlier Dr Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science) welcomed the gathering and Dr. B.K. Nanda proposed vote of thanks. A total of 62 women participated in the programme.
