Port Blair, March 13:  For the promotion and dissemination of Integrated Pest Management, Farmer Field School (FFS) in vegetable crops (Rabi) was organized by CIPMC, Port Blair. The Farmer Field School was inaugurated on 06.01.2022 and concluded on 12.03.2022.

In FFS, 35 farmers from both the villages participated. Farmers were also made aware of the harmful effects of pesticides on humans and the benefits of organic methods.  During the program, Dr. Atul Gawande, APPO, explained detailed information with demonstration on seed treatment and created awareness about natural enemy’s behavior in the agro ecosystem analysis.

Sh. H. P. Ramesh, PPO;  Dr. Atul Gawande, APPO, Dr. Chandan Lal, SCFA, Department of Agriculture, Dr. Janardan Saikia, APPO and Ranjan Bhakta were others who guided the farmers.  IPM kits, booklets, leaflets, pheromone traps, pheromone lures, fruit fly lures were distributed to the farmers. Progressive farmers Mrs.  Pinky, Mr.  Chintaharan Biswas, Mr.  Samar Biswas, Mr.  Panchanan Biswas and all the villagers expressed their view for the successful organization of the program.
