Port Blair, March 16: A study tour to the Skill Development Centre at  Mayabundar was conducted for the students of class X of the Govt. Model Senior Secondary school Sitanagar, Diglipur under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Around 50 students boarded the bus to Mayabunder at 9 am from the school and reached the Skill Development Centre at Lucknow. The students got to know about the various skill developments programmes being conducted by the centre. The girl students were very excited to learn the Fashion Designing classes, as it was first ever opportunity to get familiar with ‘the hands on training’, related to the skilled work of Fashion Designing.  The students showed interest specially in learning the basics of the Zardozi Embroidery work. They attended the theory class also. 

The students were taken to the Computer Lab where they were explained about the various courses being offered by the centre. Talking about the courses the Instructor informed that courses on the commercial software ‘Tally’ and ‘Multimedia’ & Networking are very popular and majority of the youth want to join these short term vocational courses.

The visiting school students were delighted when they entered into the ‘Soft Toys workshop’ They showed interest in learning the techniques of making soft toys using ordinary materials. The students seemed curious to learn, as it’s a course in which they can show their talent and creativity, and this art could get them better chances of self-employment as well.

Later, an interaction-session was conducted in which the students raised their queries, related to the future scope of the courses and their doubts were cleared.  The study tour was well coordinated by Smti Monika Bawali, Smti Sitamani and Shri N.Vinod kumar, the teachers of the Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Sita Nagar, Diglipur.
