Port Blair, March 16: On 12 Mar 22, at 1330 hours, Coast Guard Dornier of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) while on Maritime Reconnaissance sortie picked up distress call from IFB ESR Riyamol. The fishing boat was drifting 55 nautical miles from Port Blair, with 09 crew members onboard. The fishing boat reported loss of propeller and flooding onboard.

On receipt of the alert, HQ ANC directed Coast Guard Ship Rajkiran to provide assistance to the distressed fishing boat. At around 1800 hours on 12 Mar 22, Ship Rajkiran made contact with boat and carried out repairs and damage control of the fishing boat. The rate of flooding which was approx 300 ltrs/hour was arrested and post de-flooding, the fishing boat was safely towed to Port Blair and on 13 Mar 22 at 0800 hrs the boat was handed over to the owner.

Dedicated and coordinated efforts by Coast Guard resulted in fast and efficient rescue of the distressed fishing boat IFB ESR Riyamol alongwith 09 fishermen. HQ Andaman and Nicobar Command is committed towards ensuring safely of life and property at sea around Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
