Port Blair, March 25: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder on Thursday wrote a letter to the Hon'ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and requested him to grant permission for conversion/diversion of land.

In his letter Halder stated that since many years, the revenue department is not granting permission for conversion/diversion of land from one nature to another purpose of use due to which the general public those who have purchased the land after incurring huge amount from their hard earning or from borrowing money as loan from banks for various purposes are facing tremendous difficulties as the lands purchased by them are lying idle without use for their proposed purpose.

He added that, unemployment is one of the major issues in our Islands and many unemployed youths are willing to set up various SSI Units/Commercial establishments after availing financial assistances from the bankers as per schemes introduced by the Government of India. If the conversion/diversion of lands is allowed, it would not only create self-employment among the peoples but would also create employment opportunity to many unemployed youths in their respective trades/skills.

Further he said that due to COVID-19 pandemic, the economic condition of the general public has hampered and livelihood of many unemployed youths have also drastically affected.

Hence he requested the Hon'ble L.G to issue necessary orders for permitting the conversion/diversion of land from one nature to another purpose at the earliest in the larger interest of Islanders.
