Port Blair, April 3: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) attached to Directorate of RD, PRI’s and ULB’s, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Port Blair organized a two- days ‘SHG Mela’ at Marina Park. The ‘SHG Mela’ started on April 2 and concluded on Sunday 3rd April, 2022. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Jitendra Narain graced the occasion and encouraged the participant members of DAY-NRLM Self Help Groups (SHGs).
In the Mela, members of 40 Self Help Groups formed under DAY-NRLM in South Andaman District participated for sale of their products such as Handicrafts made of Coconut Shell, Bamboo & Cane, Ladies Hand Bag, made of pearls, Coir Products, Decorative door hangings made of wool, Bakery products, Embroided Table cloths, Fish Pickle, Honey, local Spices, Foot Mats made of waste cloths, Vegetables and farm products, etc. Besides that many food stalls were also kept by the SHG members.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts being made by the SHGs for betterment of their livelihood through small economic activities. He directed the Rural Development Department to organize such melas on frequent basis in order to provide marketing opportunities for the SHGs. He also suggested developing group of SHGs, which will work only for marketing of products made by other SHGs.
