Port Blair, April 8: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to order construction of a dam or major water catchment area in Kamorta Island to address the water crisis in the area..

The Member of Parliament also requested to construct a check dam at Munak village for storing naturally flowing water for the use of the villagers and CC drain so that excess water can reach upto the sea.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the MP mentioned that he has been informed by several village captains of Nancowry Group of Islands that certain regions of Kamorta Island are facing a serious water crisis and during the dry season, the water scarcity issue reaches its peak.

According to the village captains there is a serious water shortage in Champin, Kakana, Vikas Nagar, Pilpillow, Enaka etc. villages during dry spell.

He informed that there was a proposal of building a dam or major rain catchment area in Kamorta Island long back but not much attention was paid in this issue.
