Port Blair, April 10: On receipt of complaint from the parents of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chouldari, the South Andaman Zilla Parishad, Adhyaksha, Smti. Pramila Kumari and Member UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights and BJP State President Mahila Morcha, Smti Sampa Banerjee visited the Vidyalaya. Thereafter they met Dr. Subhash Sarkar, Union Minister of State for Education Government of India and submitted the proposal.

Navodaya Vidyalaya in Chouldari was inaugurated on 2017 by making a makeshift arrangement of utilizing existing Government Primary School, Chouldari with the capacity of 25 students for VI Standard only. The Administration had assured to complete the new building within 3 years.

In the year 2018 the Navodaya Samiti sanctioned 7.5 crore to APWD for construction of building. In March 2020 a proposal was there for 20 lakhs through MPLAD for two accommodations but due to COVID, the fund was diverted

However, even after 5 Years no building for Navodaya has been constructed. The school is still running in the Primary School, Chouldari but according to the promotion of students classes have been updated up to X std. The residential accommodation and school are running in the same building. Due shortage of infrastructure, VI and VII Std students are asked to stay at home and study through online, which has become difficult as the students belong to rural areas. Passed out students of class X are now being asked to take admission in another school.

After conveying the situation of JNC, Chouldhari, the Minister was requested for an early construction of school building and till the new building is constructed, the District Library building in front of the Navodaya School be used for the purpose of accommodating class VI and VII students as an interim measure.
