Port Blair, April 12: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell, JNRM in association with the Gram Panchayat Tushnabad and Surbhi (NGO), Caddle Gunj organised a three days training programme on Floriculture, Mushroom Cultivation and Vermi Composting in Tushnabad Panchayat Hall for the women from 11th to 13th April 2022. The programme was inaugurated by Shri.Rajender Lal, BDO & Executive Magistrate, Ferrargunj as the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest appreciated the Department of Home Science, JNRM for taking initiative. The participants should come forward to utilise the opportunities to enhance their income level through such kind of livelihood training, he said. The various agencies are providing sector specific training for empowering women and they must come forward to utilise the benefits, he added. 

The Guest of Honour, Shri.Anand Amrit Raj, Pradhan, Tushnabad Gram Panchayat requested the SHG members to start the SHG Buyers and Sellers Meet through which women can earn by selling the products without mediators to the consumers. The Panchayat is providing various opportunities in collaboration with the line departments for the development of women in all spheres of life for their empowerment, he added.

Dr. H.K. Sharma, Principal, JNRM congratulated the UBA team for taking the extension activities under the aegis of UBA Perennial Fund, IIT, Delhi as part of Institutional Social Responsibility. 

Dr. K. Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Nodal Officer, UBA thanked Professor Virendra. K. Vijay, National Coordinator, UBA for his encouragement and kind support in formulating the programme to the remote areas women like Andaman & Nicobar Islands under UBA Perennial Fund. The purpose and goal of this training as per UBA mandate is to build the capacity of the rural women through training relevant to national needs by utilising the local resources especially in rural India, he added.

Fr. Simolin, Director SURABI, Caddle Gunj explained the various types of activities and training available with the support of NABARD.  A lecture cum hands on training Oyester Musthrrom and Vermicomposting training was given by Dr. Nitu Sindhu, Scientist, KVK, ICAR-CIARI. Smt. Kakaoli Ghosh, Panchayat Secretary also spoke on the occasion. Ms. Varsa Lakra, ICSSR Project Staff, JNRM coordinated the programme.
