I extend my greetings to all Islanders on the occasion of Tamil New Year and Baisakhi.

Baisakhi marks the beginning of the New Year in the Indian Calendar while the birth of Tamil month 'Chithirai' was celebrated as the New Year in South India to mark the onset of peace, prosperity and joy in our families.

In the northern States, Baisakhi also marks the commencement of the harvesting season, when farmers reap the fruit of their hard work. Baisakhi celebration in Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with rest of India, is a shining example of our glorious pluralistic traditions.

On this occasion of Tamil New Year and Baisakhi, I pray for peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
