Port Blair, April 13: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell, JNRM in association with the DAY-NRLM, Gram Panchayat, Beodnabad organised a three-day Skill Development Training on Food Processing - Pickle, Jam, Jelly & Squash Preparation in Beodnabad Gram Panchayat Hall for the women from 11th to 13th April 2022. The valedictory function held today in the Gram Panchayat Hall.
Dr. H.K. Sharma, Principal, JNRM appreciated the team UBA, JNRM for taking extra miles to reach to the rural women for their economic empowerment. Shri. R. Paramasivam, Pradhan, Beodnabad Gram Panchayat thanked Principal, JNRM for supporting this such kind of skill development programme for women in Beodnabad and adjacent villages.
Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Nodal Officer, informed the gathering that UBA, a flagship programme of Government of India under the Ministry for Education aimed at improving the overall development of the villages across India through Higher Educational Institutions. The UBA works on the thematic areas and guidelines given by the National Coordinating Agency IIT-Delhi by evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth in Rural India for empowerment.
Smt. Banumathi, DAY-NRLM spoke on the empowerment of rural women through skill development training with the help of JNRM.
A lecture cum hands on training Pickle, Jam, Jelly & Squash Preparation was given by Ms. Binku Mondal, Resource Person, Department of Home Science, JNRM. Emphasis was also made to utilise the locally available and seasonal fruits and vegetables. This was followed by the hands on training wherein the women were divided into groups and prepared pickles viz. Lemon, Mango-Ginger, Mango mixed vegetables, Mixed Fruit Jam, Jelly-Papaya, Orange, Water Melon & Squash-Orange, Mango, Grapes.
Shri.K. Biji, Panchayat Secretary, Beodnabad Gram Panchayat also spoke on the occasion. Shri.Gautam Mitra, ICSSR Project Staff, JNRM coordinated the programme. Altogether 30 women took part in the skill development programmes, who were certificate of participation.
