Port Blair, April 18: The National Students Union of India's State General Secretary, Saurav Nair on Friday demanded to confer the prestigious Padma Bhushan award posthumously to Ex-Member of Parliament, A&N Islands Late. Manoranjan Bhakta on the occasion of his death anniversary on 12th June 2022.

In a letter to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Nair stated that “Late. Manoranjan Bhakta lived for 76 years, out of which he contributed more than 50 years in the public life, fighting for the cause of the downtrodden, backward and the suppressed people. He started his political career as a Pradhan of Diglipur Gram Panchayat serving from 1961-71. Later, he served eight terms as Member of Parliament for Andaman & Nicobar Islands".

"We the people of A&N Islands are fortunate to have a personality like Late. Manoranjan Bhakta born in our country to guide us. His whole life is a source of inspiration for all of us. If such a towering personality is honoured with the Padma Bhushan, it will be an honour for the entire Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This will inspire the youth of our Islands to realize the struggle he undertook in his life", he added.
