Port Blair, April 24: On 21st April 2022 Smti.Kavitha Udhaya Kumar, Chairperson Port Blair Municipal Council along with Shri. Azizur Rahman, Sr.Vice Chairperson, Smti. A.Selva Rani, Junior Vice Chairperson visited the Solid Waste Management Division of PBMC situated at Brookshabad. Shri.C.Karunanidhi, Chairperson, FTA Sub Committee, Shri.Rajesh Pal Govind, Chairperson Public Health and Sanitation Sub Committee and Shri.Rajesh Ram Councillor, Ward No-22 were also present during the inspection.
A team of Engineers led by Shri.Avinash Kr Singh, Superintending Engineer (I/c) briefed the Civic Chief about the on-going works in the Division the team visited the Dry Resource Centre, Faecal Sludge Treatment plant & Bio Re-mediation works of the closed dumpsite. In the closed dumpsite the Bio-Re-mediation works are going on full fledge to reclaim the land for utilization. In order to control air pollution dry waste and hazardous waste are collected and further baled and transported to mainland for disposal as per NGT guideline which will further decrease the carbon foot print in the locality. The officials informed the team that various activities being done such as segregation of wet waste and its further processing being done at compost yard. The officials also briefed about the functioning of Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant & merits of the Bio Re-mediation centre as per the compliance of Waste management Rules. The Chairperson insisted the Councillors and the Officials to sensitize the general public for maintaining the city clean and hygiene.
