Port Blair, April 24: The panchayat representatives of Hope Town, Shore Point, Bambooflat 1, Bambooflat 2, Stewardgunj, Mannarghat, Shoal Bay, Brindaban, Ferrargunj, Mithakhari, Tushnabad and several panchayats of North & Middle Andaman boycotted the Gram Sabha meeting organized on the occasion of "Panchayati Raj Day" by the District Administration on Sunday, alleging that the elected members are not being considered in the decision making.

The representatives were disgruntled at the recent order issued by the Director (RD/Panchayat) on 21st April, 2022 wherein the powers of elected representatives in decision making of their respective panchayats was restricted. The elected representatives expressed their displeasure on the following points mentioned in the new order.

No extension/removal/appointment of staffs on daily rated basis will be made by the Panchayati Raj Institutions without the prior approval of competent authority.

All leave/station leaving permission in respect of devolved/sub-ordinate officials of the Gram Panchayat viz. VLW, GRS, MTS etc. shall be daily forwarded to the Directorate of RD/PRI's and ULB's by the Panchayat Secretary.

The monthly attendance statement of the officials shall be duly signed by the Panchayat Secretary and submitted to the Block Development Officer.

The duty cum tour of the officials shall be only made as per the approval of Directorate of RD, PRI's and ULB's
