Port Blair, May 1: As part of the ongoing ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commemorating the 75 Years of India’s independence and complying to the directions of the Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, all Gram Panchayats in the Islands, today conducted massive clean-up drives under Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen towards its vision to eradicate all types of wastes, to ensure proper Solid and Liquid Waste Management and to make all rural areas visibly clean to realize the goal of Zero Waste Islands. PRI member, officials, civil society members actively took part in the drives.

The collected wastes were sent to SWM Cluster for further onward processing and recycling through authorized recyclers. An awareness and sensitization was also carried out for the participants towards the safer and smart way of handling of waste.

The Secretary (RD), Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS and Director (RD), Shri Vinay Kumar Jindal also took part in one such event in Mithakhari. The Secretary exhorted the general public to inculcate good civic  behavior and work hand in hand with the Administration for a Clean and Green Andaman.
