Port Blair, May 1: Enthusiasm marked the May Day celebrations in the Port Blair city with the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee taking out rally for a united fight to assert the rights of workers here on Sunday.

Congress leaders and workers took out a rally from Gandhi Bhawan to Gandhi statue and raised slogans against anti-labour policies of the BJP Government at the Centre. Later, they garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi at Aberdeen Bazaar.

Speaking on the occasion, ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker said that the May Day rally was organized to honour the sacrifices of many selfless workers who fought for rights of working class. Mr. Bhasker alleged that due to anti-people policies adopted by the Central government, many workers in various organisations were unable to get minimum salaries for the hard work they put in without any job guarantee

DCC President Mr. V.K Abdul Aziz said that the Central Government is arresting those who raise questions for their rights. He urged all the workers of various working unions to fight united for protecting their rights.

ANTCC Vice-President's Mr. Hamid Ali and Mr. Mohd. Ali, ANTCC General Secretary Mr. Masih Lugun, ANTCC Chief Spokesperson Mr. K. Ganeshan, Mahila Coordinator Nicobar District Mrs. Ratna Kannan, ANTCC Spokesperson Mr. Tamil Selvan, INTUC General Secretarie's Mr. Gyan Prakash and Mr. Rafique, Youth Congress President Mr. Elayaraja Alsu, Mahila Congress South Andaman Coordinator Mrs. Zubaida Begum along with several other Congress leaders were present in the rally.
