Port Blair, May 25: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India has identified Radhanagar Beach in Swaraj Dweep for Blue Flag Certification as Pilot beach in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

For the last two seasons i.e 2019-2020 & 2020-2021 the beach has fulfilled all the stringent criteria as prescribed for the certification. Based on the rigorous efforts of the Administration, the Radhanagar beach has retained the Blue Flag Certification.

In order to retain the Blue Flag Certification during the current bathing season 2022-2023, the Chairman, Beach Management Committee, South Andaman District is committed to fulfill all the parameters required to obtain the Blue Flag Certification.

In pursuance to the above, Beach Management Committee (BMC) convened a meeting under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman/Chairman, BMC on 25.05.2022 along with AC (S), DFO, Swaraj Dweep, SDPO, Swaraj Dweep, Health officials, Pradhan, Shyamnagar and other PRI members in the Conference Hall of DC Office, all parameters for Blue Flag were discussed in presence of the Members of Beach Management Committee.

After detailed deliberation the Chairman, BMC has directed to the concerned to expedite the process of Collation of test reports from BMCs, Consolidated datasheet for Bathing Water Quality Test (BWQT), Verification of Water Quality (WQ) Test Results w.r.t FEE Macro (Blue Flag Certification Agency) and Bathing Water profile (BWP).

Directions have been issued to Rural Development Department for making the plant operational for Solid Waste Management Plan (WMP) of the beach immediately in consultation with the respective PRI members.

Further necessary directions were issued to the concerned to call the team of NCSCM for Safety Risk Assessment Report (SRA) Post Monsoon.

The Chairman, BMC also requested all the officials to complete the above in a time bound manner to retain Blue Flag Certification of Radhanagar Beach during the current bathing season 2022-2023.
