Port Blair, May 30: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has highlighted the issue of non- availability of All India Radio and Doordarshan signals in many parts of Great Nicobar Island.

In a letter addressed to the Union Minister, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi the Member of Parliament had mentioned that in many parts of Great Nicobar Island (Campbell Bay) the Doordarshan and All India Radio services are not available as people are unable to receive proper signals of the All India Radio and Doordarshan.

He mentioned that being the National Broadcasters of India, people expect to receive signals of All India Radio and Doordarshan in every corner of India because with these media units, people can remain connected with the rest of the Country and can also remain updated with central government policies.

In absence of any prominent private electronic media units in Andaman, people of these islands are dependent on the News Bulletin and other information given by All India Radio and Doordarshan.

The Member of Parliament added that a large number of Islanders, living in remote Islands, wait for the shipping schedule carried by All India Radio and Doordarshan everyday as shipping is the lifeline of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

He mentioned that Andaman & Nicobar Islands being a disaster prone area, connectivity of All India Radio and Doordarshan can be life-saving in case of any major disasters.

Considering the genuine issue he requested the Union Minister, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi to look into this matter so that this issue is resolved at the earliest.
