Port Blair, June 1: The District Health Society, South Andaman along with Directorate of Health Service under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) launched special campaign “Rashtriya Netr Jyoti Abhiyaan” today in South Andaman District. The aim is to completely cover the backlog of cataract surgeries causing Blindness and SVI, among the people aged 50 years and above by conducting primary screening of people for cataract through household survey and through conducting NCD screening along with Blindness and Visual Impairment screening in Health & Wellness Centre/Hospital.

Shri. Suneel Anchipakka, Deputy Commissioner (SA)/ Chairman, District Health Society (SA) has urged the general public to avail the benefits of the campaign and screen themselves in the nearest H&WC for Blindness and Visual Impairment to achieve the target assigned by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for the period of 2022 to 2025. The South Andaman District also plan to become self-sufficient in surgical capacities in this period so that the “Cataract Free” status can be achieved.
