Port Blair, June 5: The District Child Protection Unit under the District Administration, South Andaman in collaboration with Gram Panchayat Sippighat celebrated World Environment Day today at Community Hall, Sippighat.

The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Smti Sarika Devi, Member Zila Parishad. Smti. Jyothi, Pradhan, GP Sippighat and the BDO Prothrapur were also present during the program.

The program began with a welcome address by Smti Jyothi, Pradhan GP Sippighat followed by the Keynote Address on the significance of observing World Environment Day by the DCPO, South Andaman. Children from the community presented a skit on Waste Management and its appropriate Disposal by using different bins for different wastes.

Earlier, a Drawing and Essay Competition was organized by the District Child Protection Unit South Andaman for the children of different age group on the topic “Clean & Green Panchayat”. The children were felicitated with Prizes and Certificates by the Chief Guest on the occasion.

In his address, the DC (SA) emphasized on proper disposal of waste and encouraged the children and the community to implement the learning and practise so as to protect our environment from various kinds of pollution. He further reiterated that such events will create awareness amongst the general public and appealed public participation in protecting the environment.
