Port Blair, June 5: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has highlighted the problems being faced by the general public and passengers at Shaheed Dweep Jetty.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the jetty of Shaheed Dweep is one of the longest Jetties of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, which also records very high footfalls on a daily basis by local residents and visiting tourists.

He pointed out that the Jetty requires some basic infrastructure support for the convenience of Islanders as well as tourists. There is no shed over the additional approach and Berthing Jetty of Shaheed Dweep because of which passengers, including tourists have to walk all the way to the parking area while arriving and vice versa under scorching Sun or heavy rain.

The Member of Parliament added that two passenger sheds have been constructed on the Shaheed Dweep Jetty but due to some faults in the design and construction the passenger sheds are of no use during sunny days as it gets too hot inside.

He also added that some trollies are available at the Jetty but passengers do not have access to those trollies, because of which the passengers have to carry their luggage from one end to the other.
