Port Blair, June 27: In a small function organised at Community Hall, Delanipur, Shri M P Abdul Rasheed, Director, Ration Rasheed Foundation alongwith its members of felicitated six athletes, who participated and represented Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the National Muay Thai Championship 2022 in Madhya Pradesh. The championship was organized by Sports Muay Thai Association Madhya Pradesh from 16th June 2022 to 22nd June 2022.
A special recognition was also made towards yet another gem of the Islands, Shri Uday Shankar Das who recently broke the world record of most pull up in 30 seconds, beating the previous record of 28 pull ups and bettering it with 10 more. His name has been entered in International book of records.
Around 800 athletes from 25 states participated in this Tournament, the team of A&N Islands led by Shri. N. Jagadekha Verma, coach-cum-participant made the Islanders proud by achieving a tally of 06 medals under various weight categories.
Total medals achieved by our Islanders are listed below.
1) V. Trilochan: Silver medal in sub junior under -20 kg under 10 years
2) Karthick Raj: Gold medal in -91 kg under 23 years
3) Rengarajan S: Silver medal in -63.5 kg under senior elite
4) M. Deepak Krishnan: Bronze medal in -71 kg under senior elite
5) N. Jagadekha Verma: Gold medal in -91 kg under senior elite
6) Soma Sunderam: Gold medal in Wai Kuru.
Shri Saikat Biswas, General Secretary, Ration Rasheed Foundation on the occasion appreciated the hard work put in by the athletes and encouraged them to bring more laurels for our Islands.
Mr. Rasheed also congratulated the athletes and extended his helping hand to the athletes in every which way possible, if required.
