Port Blair, July 13: Taking up one of the most crucial issues of remote Islands, the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Administration to post Gynecologists at all Community Health Centers of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and also at District Hospital Mayabunder.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that due to the absence of Gynecologists at various Community Health Centers, the expecting mothers are going through tremendous mental agony.

He added that often in case of emergency it becomes difficult to evacuate pregnant ladies to nearby District Hospitals or Port Blair city due to under repair Andaman Trunk Road, adverse weather conditions and cancellation of Helicopter sorties.

He said that there are four community Health Centers in Andaman & Nicobar Islands viz. CHC Diglipur, CHC Rangat, CHC Bambooflat and CHC Nancowrie but none of these CHC has a Gynecologist.

He added that pregnancy is a complex process during which guidance of a Gynecologist is crucial to avoid risk to the life of the baby and the mother.

He pointed out that not only CHCs, there is no Gynecologist even in the District Hospital of Mayabunder, which is putting pregnant ladies of the entire North & Middle Andaman at high risk.
