Port Blair, July 20: The meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar State Secretariat of the CPI (M) held on 19th July 2022 has observed with concern the recent decision of the BJP-led central government to bring more food items to the ambit of GST.  GST hike on all essential commodities such as pre-packaged rice, wheat, milk, pulses, curd, paneer, meat, fish, jaggery, etc.  is an assault on the people.  The State Secretariat demanded that this hike should be immediately withdrawn by the Modi government.

The meeting also noted that prices of all essential items are increasing uncontrolled. Similarly, prices of LPG, petrol and diesel are also on the rise frequently. The CPI (M) State Secretariat meeting decided to carry out protest programmes throughout the Islands against this unjustified action on the part of the BJP government.  The Party will conduct processions, public meetings, mass demonstration, etc. in the coming days by organizing all sections of people. Shri D. Laxman Rao presided over the meeting while Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary spoke.
