Port Blair, Aug. 19: The District Administration, South Andaman has left no stone unturned in reaching out to the people/their families in distress as a result of  natural calamity by providing timely assistance. In this regard, Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, (Relief & Disaster Management) has issued relief/sanction orders for amount of Rs 1,00,000/- to the victims of natural calamity from Tushnabad village under Ferrargunj Tehsil namely Shri Dulal Mondal & Shri Rajesh Mondal whose houses got damaged in the recent cyclone.

The succour is being provided as a helping hand to such people who lost their life and property or lost their means of livelihood enabling them to restart the essential activities so as to reduce their level of suffering. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has issued strict directions to all the field functionaries for ensuring all possible assistance to such families by providing  immediate relief to such families.

During the  current  year,  till date, an amount of Rs 4,50,400/- has been  disbursed as Ex-Gratia  relief  to 22 nos of Victims  of  tree falling, land slide & fire accident.

Beside above, in terms of the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in W.P. (C) No.539 & 554 of 2021 and subsequent guidelines issued by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) No. 16/11/2021-RR. Dtd 11.9.2021 for sanctioning ex-gratia assistance to next of the kin of the deceased by COVID-19 pandemic, recommending an amount of Rs 50,000/- per deceased person including those involved in relief operations or associated in preparedness activities, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has launched a Help Desk for hassle free processing of applications related to COVID-19 death compensation cases. The dedicated help desk has provided all the requisite assistance to the next of kin/family members of the deceased with information related to documents required for processing the applications smoothly and also helping the applicants in getting early disbursement of ex-gratia relief.

After providing the requisite assistance to the general public and  scrutinizing the applications filed, till now, the District Administration, South Andaman, apart  from above, an amount  of Rs 68,50,000/- has  been released against 137 numbers of  victims  who died  due to  COVID-19 till now. The District Administration is dedicated to adopt proactive mode to deal with all disaster issues.

The District Administration has established a helpline No 1077 (toll free) & 2328881, 240127 for the people of South Andaman District which is functioning 24x7 hours. As and when required the victims or their family members are contacting and informing the details of incident, which are being attended on priority.
