Port Blair, Aug. 26: World Coconut Day is celebrated every year on 2nd September across the world. The day is celebrated to highlight and raise awareness about the importance and benefits of coconut. Coconuts have multiple benefits and are one of the most versatile fruit.  This day is celebrated every year in A&N Islands too. Like every year, this year also, the World Coconut Day will be celebrated by Agriculture Department in South Andaman.

In this connection, a programme is being organized on 2nd September, 2022 at Community hall, Ograbraj, Mithakhari Gram Panchayat by Agriculture Department in coordination with Rural Development, Coconut Development Board, Industries Department and an NGO named Hand-in-Hand India. The main focus in the programme is ‘sensitization on FPO (Farmers Producer Organization)’. The Hand-in-Hand India, NGO which will conduct the sensitization programme and will explain the role of Community Based Business Organization (CBBO) in formation of FPO. Various Schemes of Agriculture Department and Coconut Development Board will be highlighted on the occasion.

The other attractions of the celebration are Exhibition-cum-Sale of coconut based products, coconut recipe competition and Rangoli Competition for general public, SHG and entrepreneurs.  Those who want to participate in these events have been requested to contact Smti Adilakshmi, Agriculture  Assistant (9434274933) /Smti Beena Neogi Agriculture Assistant (9434266093) / Ms Priyanka Dakuya (7063965470) or Miss.
