Diglipur, Aug 29: The National Sports Day is being celebrated across the country, paying tributes to the Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on his birth Anniversary today. Several Programmes are being conducted, in which the youth are participating with great enthusiasm.

In Diglipur, North Andaman, a short Marathon was organized today morning by the Govt. Model School, Sita Nagar. The Principal In-charge, S. Santosh Kumar flagged off the run from the Panchayat Bhavan Madhupur, which culminated at Subhash Gram Bazar. In the boys’ category, Sanjay Tirkey stood first, Sujal Ram reached second and Nitish Halder came third. In the Girls category, Ishika Roy secured the first place and Puja Biswas bagged the second prize. Sneha Halder succeeded in bagging third prize.

Applauding the students for their energetic performance, the Principal In-charge in his address said that one should imbibe the values of sportsman spirit. The sports and games teach us to climb the stairs of success, keeping balance in the ups and down of the life. The team work which the student learns on the ground makes him a confident person in his future professional life.

Around 100 students, including 40 girls took part in the Marathon.
