Port Blair, Sept. 3: To create awareness and to inculcate the school children about the harmful effect of the Single Use Plastic (SUP) on human beings and environment including flora, fauna and Marine environment, Andaman and Nicobar Pollution Control Committee (ANPCC), Department of Science and Technology (DST) organized a sensitization programme in Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Goal Tekri, Kamorta Island on Aug. 29 and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Champin, Nancowrie Island on Aug. 30.  The environmental movies related to harmful effect of plastic were screened on both the schools. The Member Secretary, ANPCC-cum-Director, Science & Technology interacted with the students of both the schools and explained concisely about the banned SUP items and the harmful effect on the environment and human beings.

He further elaborately illustrated the green materials available in the market as an alternative to SUPs in order to reduce the plastic waste generation and encouraged the school children to use biodegradable material in place of SUP. Cloth bags and posters on alternatives of SUP were distributed among the school children and teachers of both the schools.
