Port Blair, Sept. 3: With an aim to provide speedy justice, the Correctional Home, Prothrapur, the first of its kind, free Legal Aid Clinic to address the grievances of the inmates was inaugurated by Shri. Subash Kumar Kar, Ld. District & Sessions Judge­cum­Chairman of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) today.

Addressing the gathering, Ld. Chairman, DLSA said that inmates should utilize this opportunity and know about their rights. Creating awareness amongst the inmates who are unaware of their rights is of paramount importance. Legal support through the medium of this Legal Aid Clinic can help them to plead their cases in a better way. Many a times, this cannot be ruled out, wrong persons are axed because of lack of evidence and circumstances of a particular case. The poor prisoners involved   in   these   cases   who   cannot   afford   services   of   legal   practitioners,   suffer.   By   way   of beginning of the Legal Aid Clinic, the possibility of mistaking involvement can be corrected.

This beginning will no doubt go a long way in bringing improvement in the prisoner’s fate. The free Legal Aid Clinic will definitely be showing results and that too within no time.

O Mohammed Haneefa, Jailor (i/c) of District Jail, Prothrapur and Chief Medical Officer, Correctional Home, Prothrapur were also present on the occasion and all the speakers explained the objective and aims of the free Legal Aid Clinic and the benefits that can be availed by the inmates.
