Port Blair, Sept. 30: Dakshata, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India was launched on 26th September, 2022 in A&N IslandS to improve the quality of Maternal and Newborn Care during the Intra and immediate Postpartum period.

In line with this, a three days training on Dakshata– training programme to improve maternal, newborn care for Nursing Officers (1st batch) was organised from Sept.26 to 28, 2022 at Training Hall, NTEP, GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair. The training was inaugurated by Dr. Munni Singhania, Director, Directorate of Health Services, as the chief guest. In her inaugural address, the Director exhorted the participants to take the training seriously in order to improve the quality of health care in labour rooms to reduce the maternal and infant mortality. Dr. Sudha Patil, Professor& HOD (Obs&Gyneac), Dr. Pragthesh HOD (Paediatrics), Ms. Ruby Varghese and Ms. Privina, Nursing Officers GB Pant Hospital were the resource persons. Altogether 15 Nursing Officers from various health institutions were trained.
