Port Blair, Oct. 7: The General Body meeting of the Marine Works Employees 'Union (MWEU) of Government Dockyard affiliated to Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) was held at 9 AM on 07.10.2022 in the Labour Welfare Centre of Directorate of Shipping Services under the Chairmanship of Member of Parliament Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President INTUC (A&N Islands) and MWEU.

Sharma while addressing the gathering expressed gratitude to the employees of Dockyard, afloat and other operational staff of DSS for the service rendered by them in keeping the shipping services live during the lockdown period of COVID-19 Pandemic period for transportation of essential commodities, ration items, medicines etc. to various distant inhabited Islands. He assured the dockyard's employees to get their grievances resolved in the most pragmatic manner and shall ever endeavour for the welfare of the employees.

In the General Body meeting the issue of strengthening and modernization of workshops, timely conduct of trade test for filling up of various promotional posts, providing 1/30th of the pay at the minimum of relevant post plus Dearness Allowance to the contractual employees, timely grant of MACP etc. were discussed and deliberated.

The audit report of the MWEU for the period 14.08.2019 to 05.10.2022 was also presented before the General Body for concurrence. The new Committee of the MWEU was constituted unanimously by the General Body with Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma as President, Shri MT Khalid, Shri Venkat Rao, Shri N Akbar Ali, Shri K Ganeshan, Shri Aboobacker, Shri Shadevan, Smt. Ratna Kannan, Smt. Zubaida Begum as Vice President, Shri. M Yousuf & Shri Gyan Prakash Krishna as General Secretaries, Smt. Raswanti as Treasurer besides four Secretaries, four Organising Secretaries, four Joint Secretaries and 25 Executive Members.

The General Body meeting of the Marine Works Employees 'Union was also addressed by Shri. MT Khalid, Shri. M Yousuf, Shri Shadevan and Shri Gyan Prakash Krishna who presented the activities of the Union and highlighted various needs and aspirations of the workers of the Government Dockyard.
