Port Blair, Oct. 14: The President, Nicobar Youth Association has requested the A&N Administration for a similar policy like Union Territory of Ladakh Employment (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 2021 for the tribal people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands that leads to complete job reservation for all in Class III and Class IV jobs.

Rayhaan Pasha, President of Nicobar Youth Association had requested this to the Chief Secretary through an email Pasha believes that such employment reservations will catalyse rapid and significant growth of the tribal population by ensuring basic income for their families.

The members of the tribal community appreciate the bold decision of the Govt. of India to form the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh. Most importantly, the community strongly believes that the exclusive reservation of jobs for locals under Union Territory of Ladakh Employment (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 2021 is particularly life changing for the people of Ladakh.

As all are aware, the archipelago of Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a group of scattered Islands and suffers from many logistical and topographical challenges. The islands are separated by the sea and scattered over a stretch of 1000 km. This peculiar geographical situation makes it very difficult for the local tribal youth to build a prospering livelihood despite their enduring and persistent attitude.

Enduring several difficulties and with their strenuous efforts, a large sect of the tribal population has succeeded in getting trained as teachers, midwives, nurses, doctors, and other professionals. Regardless of being professionally trained, they are awaiting suitable appointments by the Administration to make a decent living. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has added to the already existing challenges in the lives of these marginalized communities, making their dreams of decent livelihood a distant reality.

Pasha requested the Chief Secretary to process their request on priority, thereby eradicating the financial hardships the tribes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands are facing due to employment scarcity. On behalf of the entire tribal community he also expressed deepest gratitude and support for the governance of UT Govt. A&N Islands and hope that their request is considered at the earliest convenience.
