Port Blair, Oct. 15: The Department of Home Science, JNRM in association with the Lions Club of Port Blair and Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration organized a Blood Donation Camp to commemorate the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India today at JNRM New Block.        

During the inauguration, the chief guest, Shri Kalaivanan. R, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District shared his experience and interaction he had with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam while he was a student. He explained the importance of students’ life in campus and also encouraged them to utilize the available resources and to participate in various social activities like blood donation, tree plantation, drug abuse prevention and traffic management & regulation etc.

Dr. H.K. Sharma, Principal, JNRM, informed the gathering that in collaboration with the Lions Club of Port Blair, every year JNRM organises various activities. Dr Kalam was a visionary and his ideas were always for the development of our country.  MJF.Ln. G. Somasundaram, Past President, Lions Club of Port Blair presented the activities under the banner of Lions Club.

Dr. K. Venkatesan, HoD, Home Science and Coordinator of this programme spoke about Dr Kalam’s innovation in Science & Technology and his contribution in Missile & Nano Technology.

On the occasion, poster competition was also conducted on ‘Kalam’s Vision and India’s Development’. Ms. Shailey, Ms. Rameetha, Ms. Shubha Lakshmi of IInd B.Sc., Home Science secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively in poster competition. Prizes and donor certificates for Blood Donation were distributed. Altogether 34 units of blood were donated.
