Port Blair, Oct. 17: Under the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment, an Eye Screening Camp was conducted at Chatham Saw Mill today by an eye team headed by Dr. Kapil G. Shahare, Ophthalmologist, G. B. Pant Hospital as part of the observance of World Sight Day 2022.

The eye team examined all the eye cases with special focus on cataract among 50 years or above, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy. Altogether 101 eye cases were examined, of which 12 cataract cases (11 cataract cases from above 50 years), 3 glaucoma, 3 diabetic retinopathy, 14 refractive error cases were detected and given spot treatment. All needy eye patients have been referred to G.B. Pant Hospital for further investigation and further treatment.

Earlier, Dr. Kapil sensitized the staff and workers in details about management of eye disease like cataract, glaucoma, refractive error, dry eye, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration.

The camp was facilitated by the officials of State NCD Cell, NPCDCS and Department of Community Medicine, ANIIMS. The team screened around 101 persons for diabetes and hypertension who were advised for proper diet and lifestyle changes. Some patients were diagnosed and referred to G. B Pant for specialized treatment.
