Port Blair, Oct. 19: The Andaman Sarvajanik Nirman Vibhag Mazdoor Sangh (ASNVMS), affiliated to CITU, has conducted a territory-wide mass demonstration in front of the offices of the APWD today (19.10.2022), demanding (i) implementation of High Court order on grant of 1/30th of pay plus DA Scheme of Govt. of India (ii) implementation of High Court order on grant of Bonus to all daily rated mazdoors and (iii) rgularisation of services of DRMs.
At Port Blair, hundreds of APWD workers assembled in front of the Chief Engineer’s office and held a mass demonstration. Addressing the gathering, Shri B. Chandrachoodan, President of the ASNVMS said that despite High Court orders, the A & N Administration is not implementing the Office Memorandum of 1988 issued by Govt. of India granting 1/30th of pay plus DA to the daily rated mazdoors. He further said that even after the favourable orders, the daily rated mazdoors of APWD are not being paid the Bonus. He further said that contempt petition against the Officers of Administration including Chief Engineer is pending in the High Court for their failure to implement the High Court order on grant of bonus. Shri R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU, Shri SP Kalairajan, General Secretary, ASNVMS, Shri SB Bhattacharjee and Shri Anand Rajan, Treasurer, ASNVMS led the mass demonstration.
At Digliur, the APWD workers held mass demonstration in front of the Executive Engineer’s office which was led by Shri N. Murthy, Vice President, North Andaman Public Works Union. Large number of workers participated. At Mayabunder a large number of workers participated in the mass demonstration held in front of the office of Executive Engineer, APWD, Mayabunder. At Rangat, the mass demonstration was led by Shri Karuppaiah, Secretary, Rangat Branch of ASNVMS, At Baratang, Shri Jayakumar led the mass demonstration in front of the office of the Asst Engineer, Baratang. At Hut Bay, a large number of workers participated in the mass demonstration held in front of the office of the Executive Engineer, Hut Bay. Mass demonstration by APWD workers was held at Neil Island also.
The mass demonstration will continue till the demands are settled.
