Port Blair, Oct. 21: In the ensuing festive occasion, during which the demand for sweets, savouries, milk and milk products like khoya, paneer etc increases across the country, in such scenario, the preventive actions including carrying out special surveillance/enforcement drives by Food Safety Department is an effective tool to curb the malpractices while ensuring safety of such products.

Accordingly, the officials of Food Safety Department conducted special drives in the last few days in South Andaman District. As a part of these drive samples of sweets, savouries, milk and milk products etc. were collected from various manufacturers/bake houses and sweet stalls for its analysis through FSSAI notified laboratories. Further, strict vigil is being kept on the manufacturing and sale of sweets, savouries and milk products during the on-going festive occasion.

The Commissioner Food Safety, A&N Islands/Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman District has requested all the FBOs to refrain from using any chemicals or preservatives in food items which are not permitted under the Act.
